Our Beliefs

We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as payment for our sins, and rose from the dead on the third day. We believe that the only way a person can go to Heaven when he dies is to place his faith in the payment that Jesus Christ provided with His shed blood on the cross. As an Independent Baptist church, we believe that once a person is saved by putting his faith in Jesus, we are commanded to be baptized by immersion to show to others what took place when we trusted Christ; we do this in obedience, not to save us but to show that we have been saved.  We believe in and use the King James Bible.  We believe in participating in the Lord’s Supper on a regular basis to remember the payment Jesus made for us and to express our love to Him for that payment. The Lord’s Supper is not kept to take us to Heaven but to thank Jesus for His sacrifice. We believe that every man is accountable unto God for himself, and can go to God for himself.

We believe that the Bible is what it claims to be: the Word of God. We take instruction from the Bible literally; we believe what it is actually saying, not that it is an allegory or a fable. We take instruction from the Bible in the areas of life and faith and go to it for the answers to life. We believe in the infallible inspired Word of God. The Old and New Testament Scriptures were written by human authors divinely inspired and edited by the Holy Spirit, preserved, unbroken and passed down to us today. We believe that the Bible contains the answers to life’s every need. In a day when opinion polls and media agendas steer our social conscience, we believe that we should first seek God’s opinion on any subject before forming our own. (I Timothy 3:16; John 10:35; I Peter 1:19; II Peter 1:20, 21; Psalm 119:89)

We believe in salvation by grace through faith: People are saved often at Cornerstone Baptist Church. The sacrifice made by Jesus is the only basis of salvation, the only means of reconciliation, and the only ground of justification. We believe that no man comes to God except through Jesus Christ. We hold and believe many important truths, but the most important to every individual is the personal salvation of his own soul. God’s order is salvation and then works. (Acts 4:12; I Thessalonians 5:9; Hebrews 5:9; John 12:46; John 20:31; Romans 10:9; Ephesians 2:9, 10; Titus 3:5-8)

We believe the only two ordinances of the local church are baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  Scriptural baptism is the immersion of believers in water, in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, administered by the authority of a New Testament Church and happens after a person accepts Christs atonement and before church membership or participating in the Lord’s Supper. The Lord’s Supper is a memorial ordinance according to the individual examinations and teaching of I Corinthians 11:17-34. The unleavened bread and fruit of the vine, grape juice, are to commemorate the dying love of Christ. Non-church members do not participate. (Acts 8:38; Mark 1:9-10)

We believe that it is our responsibility, as outlined in the Bible, to spread the Gospel to our area, nation, and world.
Mark 16:15, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Matthew 28:19-20, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”  (John 20:21; Acts 1:8)

We believe that the family unit should be strong and healthy. We believe that the church should be the moral conscience of a community. Since God created civil governments, we work hard to cooperate with and work together with our elected officials and civil servants. (I Peter 2:13,14,17)

We believe that Christians should talk, behave, live, and dress like a citizen of Heaven. The basis for these standards is found in the Bible. We make no apology for our conservative beliefs in many areas, including music, social issues, dress, and behavior. (I Thessalonians 4:1-10, 5:23; I Corinthians 6:11; II Peter 3:18; II Corinthians 3:18; II Thessalonians 2:13; Romans 8:5)

We believe a church should be described as a spiritual hospital where people come for spiritual healing, not a spiritual museum where the relics of “Pharisee-ism” are displayed.
(I Peter 2:1-12; Mark 16:15; Ephesians 1:22,23; I Timothy 3; Titus 1; Acts 20:17-20)

About

Cornerstone Baptist Church is a friendly, Independent Baptist Church.

At Cornerstone we still enjoy the “Old Time Religion.” Our preaching is old time preaching from the King James Bible and we still sing from the hymnal.

We are a mission-minded church. We believe in spreading the gospel around the world. This begins for us in Mount Pleasant and the surrounding area. We also support worldwide missions. Many have come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ because of our love for Jesus and others. There is a place for everyone at Cornerstone. Our goal is to preach and teach the truth of God’s Word from the cradle roll to the Senior Saints. We are excited about what God is doing in our church, and we hope you will come and visit us soon. If we can serve you in any way please do not hesitate to contact us.
